SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

How to Find Us

We are located in Arelee, Saskatchewan. Yes, we have a Google Maps pin—but we also invite you to experience the drive the old-fashioned way. Let Siri rest, pull out a paper map if you have one, and enjoy the sense of adventure that begins the moment you leave the city.

Below are two scenic routes from Saskatoon. Both take less than an hour and offer a true taste of prairie beauty.

From Saskatoon

Route #1: Highway 14 → 376 (the Adventure Route)

Head west out of the city on 22nd Street, which becomes Highway 14. Enjoy the wide-open prairies and passing lanes as you travel toward Asquith. Shortly after passing the town, watch for signs for Maymont or Eagle Creek Campground. Turn right onto Highway 376.

Fair warning: finish your coffee before this point. The road has personality—lumps, bumps, and hmm, let’s call it “charm”.

Along 376, you’ll pass an elk farm on your right, followed by a farm with donkeys,  llamas, sheep, and goats. (In summer, you can stop to feed them—there’s a 25-cent feed dispenser.

Beware the determined brown-and-white Billy goat who believes all snacks belong to him!)

Continue north, then west as the road curves. You’ll enter a forested stretch where deer and moose often appear—keep your eyes open. Soon the land opens into rolling hills and a sweeping valley that will take your breath away. When the canola, flax, or wheat fields are in bloom, the colours are unforgettable.

You’ll cross the Eagle Creek bridge, where blue herons, hawks, eagles, and geese often gather. Don’t blink!

Climb the hill, pass the entrance to Eagle Creek Regional Park, and watch for the historic Balmae Schoolhouse—a lovely spot for photos.

Just beyond the school, the highway bends north. You’re close now. Continue straight into the hamlet of Arelee.
You won’t miss the church—we promise.

Route #2: Highway 16 → Struan Grid (the Smooth Scenic Route)

Head north on Idylwyld Drive and take the left turn toward SaskTel Centre to get onto Highway 16 westbound. Continue through the 80 km/h zone and past the vehicle inspection station.

Watch for the sign on your right for Dieter Martin Greenhouse / Langham. Move into the left lane and turn left onto the Struan Grid Road.

This is a great grid—well kept, quiet, and often our preferred route. During harvest, you may need to pull over for large farm machinery. Just wave and smile; it’s part of the charm.

Enjoy the beautiful prairie views as you drive. Eventually you’ll dip into a stunning valley and cross a small bridge near the Catholic School Board outdoor education building. There’s a small pull-off just before the bridge with excellent hiking trails—this is the site of our family’s annual spring crocus hunt. It’s beautiful in every season. (If visiting in fall, please wear blaze orange!)

Continue up the hill. You’ll have passed the Eagle Creek Hutterite Colony, then see another large colony farther along, The Sunnydale Colony. Watch for the sign pointing south to Arelee – 6 km. Turn there, and before long you’ll spot the church rising from the prairie landscape.

Keep your eyes peeled—foxes, mule deer, white-tails, pronghorn, moose, and coyotes are all regular neighbours. The skies offer even more: migrating birds, hawks, eagles, unforgettable sunsets, and dark sky stargazing with zero light pollution. Northern lights are common, and the stars feel close enough to touch.

Take it all in. The journey is part of the magic.

A Note About the Roads

We switch between these routes depending on errands, weather, and whether we want the vehicle to stay clean—or collect a little prairie dust 😉 There are plenty of lovely grid-road detours if you’re feeling adventurous.

If you’re used to city life, this short road trip is a refreshing dose of country charm.
And the best part? It’s all less than an hour from Saskatoon.

We can’t wait to hear what wildlife, views, and surprises you discovered on your drive to The Secret Garden Retreat.
